Meyer Claims Top Spot for PSULV at PSUAC Championships to Close Season

CENTER VALLEY, PA (Nov. 3, 2016) - Sophomore Jon Meyer leads the way for Penn State Lehigh Valley's Cross Country program by finishing 10th at the PSUAC Cross Country Championships. Meyer earned 2nd Team All-Conference Honors for the second year in a row. With warm temperatures, gusty winds, and tough competition, Coach Jeff Breidinger got all that he asked for out of Meyer at the conference championships.

"Jon worked incredibly hard this season and consistency improved in each race he ran in. He ran with toughness and determination which earned him our top spot for the program in the PSUAC Championship Meet", Breidinger commented.

Penn State Mont Alto hosted the 2016 PSUAC Cross Country Championships at Norlo Park.

Sophomore duo Jon Meyer and Anthony Siguenza guided the men's program with support from Freshman Jarrett Tranauskas during the 2016 season. Siguenza ran the best time for the program with a 28:56 8k at the Paul Short Invitational. Meyer's performances improved in each race during the course of the season running a best 30:27 8k.

Breidinger added, "Meyer's mental toughness is something that every coach desires from their athletes. He ran with confidence and played a pivotal role for the program. I wish we could have him for another season." Meyer will be transitioning to University Park in the Fall of 2017 to finish out his course load as a Biotechnology major.

"I am very satisfied with what I have been able to accomplish at Penn State Lehigh Valley. Not everyone gets the opportunity to compete at the college level and I was able to do it while being successful," Meyer added. "To be able to earn Conference honors both years will be memories I'll take with me forever."

With the season coming to a close, Breidinger will be actively recruiting to replace Meyer and athletes transitioning to University Park. Recruits are encouraged to contact Coach Breidinger at jlb1061@psu.edu for any questions about recruitment or the program.
