Women's Basketball Falls On The Road to Wilkes University, 63-58

WILKES BARRE, PA (November 23, 2021) - Hot shooting in the 2nd half allowed Wilkes University to overcome a halftime deficit to earn a 63-58 victory in a tightly contested non-conference game against Penn State Lehigh Valley at the Marts Center Tuesday night in Wilkes Barre. Penn State Lehigh Valley fell to 5-3 overall.

Penn State Lehigh Valley led at halftime 24-18 on a Raynah Young 3 point shot at the buzzer before intermission.

After the Nittany Lions scored the first basket of the third quarter, Wilkes drilled three consecutive shots from behind the arc on three straight trips up the floor. Wilkes added a jumper to end an 11-0 personal run to give Wilkes a 29-26 lead with 7:08 left in the third quarter. 

The Nittany Lions scored the first four points in the fourth quarter for a 48-45 lead before Wilkes made layups to push the Colonels back ahead 49-48 with 6:33 left. Wilkes made a basket in the paint off a nice post entry pass to push the Wilkes advantage to 53-50 with 4:46 left. After Penn State tied the game Wilkes made one of two free throws and another bucket to led 56-53 with 2:28 left. 

From there the Colonels went 5-for-8 from the charity stripe to clinch the game and Wilkes came up with a big block on a three-point attempt with 20 seconds left to close out the 63-58 victory.

Taylor Styles led the Nittany Lions with 13 points while Anaya White added 10.

The Lions will get back to PSUAC action on Tuesday November 30th when they host PSU Hazleton at 6 PM at Northamptom Community College Bethlehem Campus.
