Women's Basketball Downs Defending National Champions PSU Beaver

ALLENTOWN, PA (Dec. 6, 2015) - The Penn State Lehigh Valley Women's Basketball team downed the defending PSUAC Conference Champions and USCAA National Champions Penn State Beaver, 71-66, Sunday afternoon at Cedar Crest College to improve to 3-3 overall and 1-0 in PSUAC play.

Sophomore Andrea Watkins had a career day; shooting 12 for 23 from the field and 14-20 from the free throw line for a career-high 38 points.  Freshman Llaci Henry chipped in with 12 points including the go ahead basket with 1 minute left in the game.

Watkins opened the game scoring the first two baskets followed by a Gia Erie jumper to give Lehigh Valley a 6-0 start and fueling a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. Lehigh Valley would have stifling defense in the second quarter to hold Beaver to just 3 points and take a 28-16 halftime lead. 

Watkins opened the third quarter with a lay-up off an Ashley Gordon assist at the 9:02 mark. Beaver would rally back and go on a 15-2 run to pull within one with 5:39 to go in the third. Lehigh Valley would answer with their own run; including a lay-up by Watkins and back to back 3 point shots by Gordon and Nicole Amann which would fuel a 52-44 lead entering the fourth quarter. 

Lehigh Valley would lead 60-50 with 7:14 to go but Beaver once again would rally back to score the next five points pulling within five with 5:48 remaining. Watkins would answer with two baskets with 4:18 remaining to give Lehigh Valley a 64-55 lead. Beaver would have one last fight in them scoring the next six baskets to lead 66-64 with 1:31 left in the game. Lehigh Valley's Llaci Henry would score the next two baskets and two free throws to give Lehigh Valley the lead for good. 

This victory marks the first win for Penn State Lehigh Valley Women's Basketball in school history over conference and national powerhouse Penn State Beaver. 

Lehigh Valley will be right back in action Tuesday, Dec. 8th for a doubleheader with host Penn State Brandywine. The women's game will tip off at 6 PM, followed by the men at 8 PM.  This will be the women's last game in the 2015.
