Men's Basketball Drops Two at Roosevelt's 21st Tourney

BETHLEHEM, PA (Dec. 30 & 31, 2016) - The Penn State Lehigh Valley team competed in the Roosevelt's 21st Greyhound Basketball Classic hosted by Moravian College for the 1st time ever. Despite a great effort, PSULV dropped both games to NCAA Division 3 powers Moravian College 91-69 and Montclair State University 87-78. 

MORAVIAN RECAP:

The Moravian College men's basketball team used a hot shooting first half to jump out to a 21-point lead on the way to defeating Penn State Lehigh Valley, 91-69, in the opening round of the 37th Roosevelt's 21st Greyhound Classic in Johnston Hall Friday. Lehigh Valley's Tarvis Gilbert led the Lions with 20 points and Othneil Nyamekya chipped in with a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. 

MONTCLAIR STATE RECAP:

PSULV lead 45-41 at halftime but MSU got 63 of its 87 points from its bench as it overcame the halftime deficit.  A three-pointer by Jordan Young to open the second half increased the lead to 48-41 before the Red Hawks went on a 17-4 run over the next five minutes for a 58-52 advantage.

Penn State countered with the next four points to close within two points however MSU scored then next seven to restore the lead to 65-56. MSU finished off a fastbreak to push the lead to double digits which the Red Hawks maintained the rest of the way.

Shane Schmidt led Lehigh Valley with 17 points. Othneil Nyamekya recorded 14 points and was also named to the All-Tournament team. Jordan Young chipped in with 14 points and Eric Gainor contributed 11 points.
