Men's Basketball Downs Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 89-77

ALLENTOWN, PA (Dec. 5, 2015) - The Penn State Lehigh Valley Men's Basketball team picked up their first conference win of the season against visiting Penn State Wilkes-Barre, 89-77, infront of a packed house Saturday afternoon at Cedar Crest College. 

Sophomore Edward Sanchez led Lehigh Valley with a career-high 29 points, shooting 9 for 14 from the field, 4 for 5 from three point range and 7 for 7 from the free throw line.  Sophomore Edward Hudak recorded his first career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.  Senior Tyler Krchnavi contributed his first season double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.  

The first half saw six lead changes until the 6:28 minute mark when Lehigh Valley sophomore Sekou Mangassabou dunked the ball from a Edward Sanchez assist. Lehigh Valley would then go on a 16-10 run to end the half leading 44-36. 

Edward Sanchez opened the second half on fire scoring 11 straight points to give Lehigh Valley a 60-52 lead with 13:38 to go. Wilkes-Barre would fight back to take the lead 73-72 with 6:16 to go. Sophomore Tyler King and Edward Hudak hit back to back 3 pointers to give Lehigh Valley the lead for good.  

"I am so proud of my guys getting the first win of the year. We have been focusing on playing with maximum effort for 40 minutes and I think we achieved that goal today." commented first year head coach Mike DeCarolis who picked his first collegiate coaching victory.

Lehigh Valley will be right back in action Sunday, Dec. 6th for a doubleheader with visiting Penn State Beaver. The women's game will tip off at 1 PM, followed by the men at 3 PM.  Both games will be played at Cedar Crest College.
